Abstract: The effect of treatment of retention of placenta on postpartum performance of buffaloes was investigated in the surroundings of Tandojam. The buffaloes were divided in to seven treatment groups as A, B, C, D, E, F and G. The data on first postpartum estrus interval and service period were compared. The incidence of retention of placenta was recorded as 11%. The mean first postpartum estrus interval for the groups was observed as 194.20 " 19.92, 123.05 " 6.89, 133.05 " 7.95, 118.45 " 7.06, 115.80 " 5.30, 108.52 " 6.24 and 98.12 " 1.62 days respectively. The mean service period was recorded to be 168.75 " 26.09, 157.88 " 14.44, 139.33 " 9.82, 122.90 " 7.07, 120.06 " 7.66 and 99.48 " 1.69 days respectively. The treatment group-F, where manual removal of the retained mass was followed by the administration of oxytocin, calcium, antibiotics locally and parenterally was significantly superior to all the other treatment packages in giving the shorter service period in buffaloes.
