Authors : Sushil K. Sharma

Abstract: Electronic commerce (e-commerce) may represent the most radical force of change that nations have encountered since the Industrial Revolution. E-commerce can transform an entire national economy, and can change business models, revenue streams, customer base and supply chains. E-commerce capabilities can help boost a country`s competitiveness and shift the worldwide competitive arena. Developed countries that have been offering e-commerce have shown impressive performance in their economy, but many countries lag behind in the e-business race. This could be due to several reasons including such as language, education, technology and technical infrastructure. E-commerce technologies present to developing nations an opportunity to bolster their economy. If the developing countries can harness the new e-commerce technology in innovative and efficient ways, it can shift the balance of power. Every country is trying their best to implement e-commerce technologies. How do you assess whether the country is prepared to offer E-commerce solution? Our study suggests a framework for assessment model, which can help to assess country`s capabilities of preparedness to offer e-commerce solutions. The framework, and the propositions that are developed from it, should be useful both for researchers, who can use it for developing testable research hypotheses, and for practitioners, who may use it as a basis for developing a comprehensive set of criteria for the evaluation of these factors.
