Modelling of Current Velocities from Advection Process Along Kuala Terengganu Coastal Waters

Authors : Maged Marghany

Abstract: This study utilized the advection model and Finite Element Methods to determine the water current velocities over different water depth from salinity data. These salinity data have been collected during inter-monsoon season. The element-free galerkin method (EFGM) has been utilized to model the current velocities. The study shows that there is surface tongue of onshore water movements towards the northward direction with velocity value of 0.7 m/s. In 35 m depth the offshore water transport with velocity value of 0.7 m/s moved towards onshore and form a frontal zone. In conclusion, salinity data can be used with the advection model and (EFGM) to determine the current velocity with high resolution.
