Abstract: All development activities are to day linked with the environmental situation. The present day speedy socio-economic development of humanity, which is the highest form of vital activity, has most vigorously stimulated changes in nature. Technological advancement, has bettered the human life on this planet; on the other hand, it has sharply intensified the pollution of environment and posed still severe threats for future generation. The environmental degradation in its many forms constitutes a considerable threat to economic development. Increasing population growth, extermination of a number of life forms because of man`s activity, dwindling natural resources that man has been consuming for centuriesand deterioration of overall environmental quality, are the primary environmental problems that man is creating and facing today. Environmental conservation is the careful use of natural resources to ensure that there is enough for the future and ensuring that damage done to the environment will be minimum. Many environmental Kuznets curve (EKC) studies suggest that specific policies to protect the environment are necessary for curbing certain forms of pollution and resource depletion. It is needed to determine what environmental policies are required to ensure that the needs of the present are met without compromising the economic opportunities to meet the needs of the future generation. This paper argues that environmental and natural resources be managed efficiently so that the welfare losses from environmental damages are minimized and any resource rents earned after ‘internalizing` environmental externalities are maximized.
