Abstract: The study tries to compare the pattern of road connectivity and nodal accessibility development in a portion of Northeastern Nigeria (made up of areas in Former Borno and Gongola States) between 1955 and 2010. Data for the study was derived from the road map of Nigeria 1955 and 2010 as well as the 2006 National population census figures. Techniques in network analysis and the Man-Witney U test were used in analysing the data. The study reveals that the 1955 pattern of road network development in the region was very typical of the early stages of network development as propounded by Taaffe with isolated sub-graphs, very sparse connectivity and very low accessibility. The study further reveals that the post-independence developments in the country however, lead to significant improvements in both total connectivity and nodal accessibility in the North-East sub-region even though the overall pattern achieved by the year 2010 is still far from satisfactory.
