Abstract: The study presents a novel route for production of propylene glycol using chlorination and dechlorination of alcohol. Isopropyl alcohol was reacted with hydrochloric acid where chlorine substituted hydroxyl group in the alcohol. This chlorinated propyl was peroxidated using hydrogen peroxide to produce propylene glycol in a two stage reaction. Observation from product yield showed a profound yield of propylene glycol when chloropropane was peroxide by hydrogen peroxide at a temperature of 4°C and a flow rate of 2.5 mL min-1.
