The Effect of Using Google Earth Application on Learning and Retention of Geography

Abstract: The current study aimed to investigate the effect of using Google Earth Application on students’ learning and retention of geography. The statistical population of the study consisted of 600 students in fourth grade of elementary school studying in 2013-2014 school year. In this study, random sampling was used by which 60 students were randomly selected into two groups, 30 students in the experimental group and 30 students in the control group. Pre and post-test were used to gather the data needed. The students were taught by Google Earth application in 8 sessions of 1.5 h. The method used in this studyaccording to the topic and its objectives was experimental. Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA) was used to analyze the data and the results indicated teaching geography by the use of Google Earth Application had positive effect on students’ learning and retention which the difference of variances in the two group of experimental and control was confirmed.
